Our Mission
Westgate Christian Academy desires that children will know and mature in Christ and develop to their maximum academic ability within a Christ-centered curriculum. We are a ministry of Westgate Church, for the dual purpose of providing high-quality elementary education for the children of Christian families and for reaching out to the local community. Our Vision
Our vision is to partner with parents in a Christian atmosphere, providing an education that holds students to high academic standards while inspiring them to desire godliness and wisdom, truth and beauty. Our Philosophy of Education
Westgate Christian Academy believes that God is the source of all wisdom, knowledge and truth. Therefore, academic excellence is dependent on integrating Christ into the curriculum with the scriptures as the core, so that children nurtured within this environment will develop a solid foundation for Christian character and growth. WCA wholeheartedly supports families who are seeking to raise godly children. It is our task to help our students develop and grow as Jesus did, according to Luke 2:52: intellectually (wisdom), physically (stature), spiritually (favor with God) and relationally (favor in society). To that end, we honor and glorify God in the methods we use, the materials we choose, and the model of behavior we present to our students. Recognizing that God created children with different talents and abilities, we approach education from a developmental perspective. Each student is a unique gift from God; it is our primary goal to bring out each student’s best in all four developmental categories. 1. Academically, WCA uses the Concept Curriculum model. This model, with a thematic base, allows for educational best practice, research-based instruction, and the integration of curricula areas. Students thrive intellectually in such an atmosphere. 2. WCA takes seriously the need for young bodies to exercise for physical fitness. We continue our participation in the President’s National Fitness Program for all students, and are developing intramural sports programs for our upper school students. 3. It is any Christian school’s most vital task to nurture each child’s most important relationship: the Lord. We have the mandate to ensure that our students learn to obey the “first and great commandment”–to “love the Lord your God” with all their hearts, minds and strength (Matt. 22:37). To that end, we integrate the Bible into the curriculum at every grade level in ways that aid the development of a biblical worldview. Several opportunities are offered throughout the school year for all our students to serve the local community in practical ways. Daily devotions and weekly chapel services help ensure that students see Christ as central to their lives and education. Opportunities for each class to lead those chapel services teach them the importance of servant ministry. At the Junior High Level, students receive guidance in developing Christ-like character and instruction on what it means to be a disciple of Christ. In short, our students receive the Christian foundation they need to become the Christian leaders of tomorrow. 4. Finally, we know that healthy growth is not possible in isolation. We ensure that each student is engaged socially, both through peer interaction and in properly submitted relationship with adult staff. We encourage active social participation both in class and out. As a community of saints unified in pursuing the goal of Christ-centered education for our children, the staff and families of WCA model healthy social interaction through Christlikeness in relationship, in keeping with the second great commandment, “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:39). |
