Westgate Christian Academy
STUDENT CONDUCT AGREEMENT

At Westgate Christian Academy, we are endeavoring with parents to shape the character of our students so that they will be vessels unto honor, useful to the Master (2 Timothy 2:22).  This character-shaping involves the forming of virtues such as diligence, honesty, truthfulness, and kindness.  The following guidelines define appropriate behavior as well as inappropriate behavior for students at WCA. It is not an exhaustive list but we hope this list will help students to spend some time before the Lord, to seek Him about the condition of their heart attitude toward those God has put in authority over them.

This document serves as an agreement between WCA, the student and his or her parents, and must be signed and returned to school by September 9, 2004.

The following types of conduct are not acceptable:

General Unacceptable Behavior

  1. Disrespect, disobedience or insubordination exhibited to teachers or staff
  2. Destroying or defacing school property including textbooks, (parents are expected to pay for repairs or replacement of property damaged by their children)
  3. Hurtful arguing and conflict (both verbal and physical aggression)
  4. Leaving the school grounds without permission
  5. Cheating
  6. Lying or incomplete truth
  7. Swearing or unclean language
  8. Chewing gum
  9. Horseplay in the school building or on field trips
  10. Handling other students’ property or taking personal property without permission
  11. Smoking and/or possession of tobacco
  12. Possession of any drug not prescribed for the student by a physician
  13. General disturbances such as talking out in class without permission, interrupting the class, writing notes, throwing objects indoors, or running or shouting in the any building.
  14. Not attending any class, including study hall, electives, detention or required after school study times.
  15. Misuse of the school’s information technology, i.e. computers, internet access, e-mail, as outlined in the Computer Use Policy

Dress Code

I agree to adhere to Westgate Christian Academy’s uniform dress code, as outlined in the School Uniform policy.

Homework Policy

I agree that as a student at WCA, it is my responsibility to complete my homework as it is assigned each night.  It is also my responsibility to bring all my textbooks and materials necessary for each subject to class.  If there is an emergency, illness or other unforeseen occurrence which prevents me from completing my homework, my parents will provide a note explaining why the homework is not complete.  Unless I arrange with my teacher for a specific due date, I will turn in the assignment the next day.

Grades

If I receive below a C- in any subject for a quarter grade, I must have a special meeting with the teacher of that subject, the principal to work out a plan to complete missing assignments or receive tutoring.  I will not be allowed to participate in afterschool sports until the teacher determines that my grades have been brought up and that I have demonstrated a responsible attitude.

Consequences

If I choose to disregard these guidelines, that choice will result in a consequence in one or more of the following four categories:

Level 1:  Classroom Time out:  Teacher generated consequence for classroom occurrences

Level 2:  Headmaster/principal generated consequence which may include a note to parents: When resolution of the situation involves more classroom time than the teacher can allocate or when the situation is serious (fighting, continued disrespectful attitude; cheating; lying)

Level 3:  Detention:  Teacher or Headmaster/Principal generated with note to parents and one warning, if detention is because of a uniform code violation.

Level 4:  Suspension:  Headmaster generated after a meeting with teacher, parents and student.  May be in-house or at home depending on the offense.

Detention will be held from 3:15 4:15 the day the infraction occurs if at all possible.  Parents will need to speak with the principal if the detention must be rescheduled.  The detention will also cost $7.00 (the after-school hourly fee).

I, __________________________________________, understand the rules of behavior and will make my best effort with help from the Lord to exhibit respect for Westgate Christian Academy, toward the staff, toward fellow students and toward myself.  I also understand the consequences should I not follow these rules.
